Anime Detour 2017

Hello! 

Anime Detour 2017 has just concluded and it was a ton of fun! I attended with Nik and our friend Ivan. We saw several people we knew and some great cosplays! 

Originally, I wanted to cosplay the alternative costume as Kat from Gravity Rush 2. Unfortunately, some technical difficulties on top of this cosplay being overwhelming warm made it impossible to wear on a weekend where the average temperature was 70+F outside (let alone inside where there are thousands of people!)

Instead, I ended up going with my back-up cosplay: Virgin-killer-sweater casual Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Much more comfortable! I just had to worry about leaning forward since there's no way to hold everything in in that kind of sweater!

We went to several trivia based panels. I even won a cupcake by guessing an anime song in the hard category! I really liked the way those leaders held the panel since they let anyone from the audience answer and gave out candy to whoever won in the easy and mid categories and cupcakes for the hard category! 

There was another "Name that Tune" panel that was held in a tournament style. There were 2 people leading the panel, but they had had no control of the room and at the end there was a tie between the final 2; someone in the audience demanded a JoJo's Bizzare Adventure song to which one of the panel leaders said "No one likes JoJo." Out of a room of about 50 people, about 20 immediately got up and left the panel. Let's just say they did not think about their audience very well and were not skilled at holding a room's attention.

The third trivia panel we went to was a Jeopardy! style game where 5 teams of three were against the audience. This panel was really well done by 4 panel leaders who all had their own responsibilities during the panel and they were extremely humorous. The questions were really hard, but it was still entertaining!

The non-trivia panel we went to was "Anime Recommendations" which was held by 4 panel leaders, Only one of the panelists spoke, which we thought was kind of interesting. Some titles that Nik and I noted to watch were Houkago no Pleiades, Kiznaiver, and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet. We've started watching Gargantia and I am so far impressed!

Next we went to the Rufflebutts Fashion Show which was a Lolita Fashion Show! I apologize for pictures, it's difficult to get clear photos when you can't use flash and people are sitting in front of you in a dark room!

 Later that evening was the main event: The Cosplay Contest! Once again, the pictures aren't the best so I cropped them a bit and hoped for the best!

From Yuri on Ice (She had a partner and they had a beautiful choreography but I got absolutely no good shots)

From Deadpool (Medal winner) (She accepted her medal while texting, very true to character! Loved it!)

From Yu-Gi-Oh (She was absolutely hilarious and I loved her performance)

From Love Live (They performed SNSD's Gee AND I LOVED EVERY BIT OF IT, I REQUIRE FRIENDS TO DO THIS EXACT THING.) 

There was a beginning performance named "Chibi RWBY" in which all of the Ruby characters were girls under 5 years old and they were the CUTEST DARN THINGS, however there was too much movement to get a good shot unfortunately.

Overall, we had a really fun time. This experience revitalized my passion for art and cosplay. I'm going to try even harder for next year to have a new exciting cosplay that I make more of myself instead of purchasing the outfit!
